Alberta Elections 2019
ISCC’s Four Point Agenda for Upcoming Alberta Elections
(Calgary, Alberta) The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC) has issued four points agenda for the upcoming provincial elections. We request all Albertans to stand up against hate and support those candidates who support these four points.
1) Hate, racism and discrimination including Islamophobia is a hate crime.
2) The current history books taught in schools present and project the Crusaders as heroes and Muslims as ruthless aggressors. In many cases teachers show clear bias against Muslims when they discuss the conflicts between Europeans and Ottomans. We understand these conflicts are part of history and must be taught to our students with unbiased and balance views. The bias and in some cases hateful views against Muslims create hate against Muslims. This must be corrected and bias against Muslims must be removed.
3) Parents must have the right to choose what should be taught to their children and parents must have the complete knowledge about their children’s activities at schools. [implicit reference to Alberta’s progressive sex-education curriculum that addresses LGBTQ rights].
4) The multi ethnic, multi religious and multi cultural demographically changing nature of the Canadian society should be part of Alberta curriculum.
