Justin Trudeau’s ties to Islamic Relief Canada

February 8, 2019 by ACD

Here are some of the Facebook posts published by Islamic Relief Canada in 2017 and 2018:

May 10, 2018 – “#TBT to an incredible afternoon last Ramadan when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau helped us share the Ramadan spirit with Canadian families in need. Together, we can create positive change. Stay tuned for more! #RamadanReady islamicrelief.ca/events” (archive) Islamic Relief Canada attached a featuring Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau packing boxes for Ramadan alongside Zaid Al Rawni, the CEO of Islamic Relief Canada and Mahmood Qasim, Head of Fund Development at Islamic Relief Canada. (see below)

June 22, 2017 – “Islamic Relief Canada is with Justin Trudeau. “Thank you Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for your valuable trust and support, and for sharing Ramadan with those in need. With the strength of our beautiful country behind us, we have grown to serve over 30 million people over the past 10 years, irrespective of race or religion. More than ever, the time to support is now!” (archive)

The post included a video (archive) featuring Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau packing boxes for Ramadan alongside Zaid Al Rawni, the CEO of Islamic Relief Canada and Mahmood Qasim, Head of Fund Development at Islamic Relief Canada. Here is the transcript of Trudeau’s speech at the event:

“First, I want to wish you a happy and a blessed Ramadan and say that this is certainly in the spirit of Ramadan but also of our shared values of Canadians that we’re generous, that we’re there for each other, that we think of those are not as fortunate and we help our brothers and sisters. That’s what is extraordinary about this country. That’s extraordinary about the values we share. And it’s what we’re celebrating in Ramadan and as we celebrate in this holy month. The fact is that we come together, that we reflect on how we can make a difference, not just today but every day and making communities batter, safer, places where people are more welcome, more understood is absolutely essential. As always, right here I’m horribly bias because we’re in my wonderful riding of Papineau, but everywhere in Canada you can see it. We have made differences a source of strength. Not a source of weakness. And everywhere around the world, people are challenged, looking at fault lines, looking at differences, pushing back against people who are different. Because of fear, because of intolerance, because of ignorance. And the more we can do to show that we share values, to be there for each other, to respect each other, to build a better future that can be shared by all the better the world will be. What Islamic Relief is doing, what you are all doing as volunteers and what everyone is reflecting on this holy month of Ramadan and in our daily lives as Canadians is something worth celebrating. So thank you very much, shukran, for letting me be part of this.”

June 15, 2017 – Islamic Relief Canada shared Justin Trudeau’s Facebook post: “Fill em up! It was great to be with Islamic Relief Canada volunteers in my riding today, marking Ramadan by making food kits for Moisson Montréal.” (archive) Islamic Relief Worldwide added the following statement: “Very honoured to share our work with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today, packing boxes to give to a food bank in Montreal and commemorating the spirit of Ramadan together. Thank you for your trust and support, and to all who helped!” (archive)

December 5, 2017 – “Our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau helping us deliver supplies to a food bank for Canadian families who are food insecure. Today on #InternationalVolunteerDay we are grateful to every one of you who believes in a better world and dedicates their time and actions to saving a life. You make our work possible, thank you!” (archive)

December 31, 2017 – “We collaborated with Moisson Montreal to organize a food drive for people in crisis on the Island of Montreal. With your help, more than 1250 kg of food was distributed to assist these individuals in need. We were also honoured to be joined by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who helped us pack food boxes at the event!” (archive)
