On December 29, 2018 Jawed Anwar posted an article entitled “Racist Slur: Go Back to Your Home!?”
Here is the article: followed by excepts from the English translation of the Quranic verses in question by Mustafa Khattab, a member of the Canadian Council of Imams and the Imam of Anatolia Islamic Centre in Toronto, Ontario:
Racist Slur: Go Back to Your Home!?
Lut (Quranic Arabic name, English bible name Lot), Peace Be Upon Him, was the Messenger of God and immigrant to the nation where he settled down to call the people towards Allah. He was the nephew of a prominent Messenger of Allah; Abraham (PBUH).
The nation (inhabited by the people of Lot, which lies between Iraq and Palestine, is known as Trans-Jordan. According to the Bible, its capital town was Sodom; now in the Dead Sea) was indulged in “homosexuality.”
Lot (PBUH) asked the nation that you are doing the worst thing ever humanity did it before.
And remember when We sent Lot [as a Messenger to his people and he said to them: ‘Do you realize you practice an indecency of which no other people in the world were guilty of before you? (Quran 7:80)
Instead of listening and responding to the call of Lot (PBUH), they slurred;
“But his people’s only response was to say, “Expel them from your land! They are a people who wish to remain chaste!” (Quran 7:82)
What was the crime of Lot (PBUH)? He was asking the nation not to indulge in such indecent thing that not ever worst of the worst nation involved in it.
The nation of Lot (PBUH) denied him. The people of his nation asked Lot (PBUH) to leave the country, or we will forcibly deport you. What was the “crime’ of Lot (PBUH)..? He was saying to his nation don’t involve in homosexual (LGBT) lifestyle.
So what happened? Who expelled whom? The angels came in his home in beautiful human faces. Following these angels, the nation of Lot came to his home and asking for these boys (angles) to fulfill their lust.
And when Our messengers (angels) came to Lot, he was perturbed by their coming and felt troubled on their account, and said: ‘This is a distressing day. (Quran 11:77)
He (Lot, PBUH) responded (to his nation), “If only I had the strength ˹to resist you˺ or could rely on a strong supporter.” (Quran 11:80)
Lot (PBUH) pleaded, “Indeed, these are my guests, so do not embarrass me. Fear Allah and do not humiliate me. They responded, “Have we not forbidden you from protecting anyone?” (Quran 15:68-70)
And ˹the men of˺ his people—who were used to shameful deeds—came to him rushing. He pleaded, “O my people! Here are my daughters (of the nation) ˹for marriage˺—they are pure for you. So fear Allah, and do not humiliate me by disrespecting my guests. Is there not ˹even˺ a single right-minded man among you?. They argued, “You certainly know that we do not need your daughters. You already know what we desire!” (Quran 11:78-79)
So what really happened?
The angels said, “O Lot! We are the messengers of your Lord. They will never reach you. So travel with your family in the dark of night, and do not let any of you look back, except your wife. She will certainly suffer the fate of the others. Their appointed time is the morning. Is the morning not near?” (Quran: 11:81)
So when the messengers came to the family of Lot, he said, “You are surely an unfamiliar people! They responded, “We have come to you with that ˹torment˺ which they have doubted. We come to you with the truth, and we are certainly truthful. So travel with your family in the dark of night, and follow ˹closely˺ behind them. Do not let any of you look back, and go where you are commanded.” We revealed to him this decree: “Those ˹sinners˺ will be uprooted in the morning.” (Quran: 15:61-66)
The end of the nation
Quran says only Lot (PBUH) and his family except his wife (she was a supporter of the disgraced nation) were protected and the whole nation was destroyed completely.
But We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who lagged behind. (Quran: 7:83)
And when Our command came about, We turned it upside down, and We rained down on it stones of baked clay. (Quran 11:82)
So the Blast struck them at sunrise. And We turned it upside down and rained down upon them stones of baked clay. (Quran: 15:73)
Then We destroyed the others. And We rained down on them a rain. Dreadful is the rain of those forewarned. Surely in this is a sign, but most of them are not believers. (Quran: 26:172-174)
History repeats. History may repeat. We have fear of God. The lesson is very clear. Only Lot (PBUH) and his supporters can get protection.
We are followers of Lut (PBUH) and the last Messenger of Allah; Muhammad (PBUH). We stood to forbid evil. It is a God-assigned responsibility. We are calling you in love being brothers and sisters of one humanity.
You are now the best people brought forth for (the guidance and reform of) mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. Had the People of the Book believed it were better for them. Some of them are believers, but most of them are transgressors. (Quran 3:110)
I believe I convey my message to those racist hate mongers who sent me one common message; Go Back to Your Home!
