Egypt's Role In The Destabilization Of The Middle East

January 4, 2007 by The Terror Finance Blog | by Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld

At the time the international community imposes economic sanctions against the terrorist government of Hamas, Egypt facilitates the transfer of millions of dollars in cash to support and sustain it.

“We don’t allow money carried by Palestinians to be smuggled, but Egyptian law allows the passage of money as long as it is declared,” said Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. He made this statement today in reaction to to the Israeli Premier, Ehud Olmert to stop the transfer of truck loads of money from Iran, the Gulf States and Saudi Arabia to Hamas.

Last month Hamas appointed Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh returned to Gaza with US$35 million in cash. On January 5, 2007, Haniyeh declared, and was allowed by the Egyptian to carry $20 million he was given by the Saudis to support the Hamas resistance. Moreover, Mubarak fuels terrorism in the Gaza Strip – the source of all Middle East terrorist organizations. Egypt allows “the systematic smuggling of surface-to-surface, anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, explosives and even terrorists into the largest terrorist base in the Mideast, Gaza,” says Yoram Ettinger.

Indeed, on February 16, 2003, in “Straight From The Jerusalem CLOAKROOM #126,” Ettinger detailed how Egypt, the recipient of “$1.9BN ANNUAL U.S. AID (over $30BN since 1980)” has promoted anti-US policies, encouraged anti-US elements, undermined regional peace, and works to acquire weapons of mass destruction. Indeed, on January 5, 2007, Mubarak announced that Egypt has embarked on developing nuclear weapons. While the economic condition of the majority of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is worsening, the cash smuggled by the Hamas leaders is used to pay their operatives and members in the security services, to ensure their loyalty. By allowing cash and weapons for Hamas, Egypt is supporting a terrorist organization which is a branch of the the outlawed Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.

It seems that Mubarak is repeating the actions the Saudis took in the 1990メ to keep bin Laden out of the Kingdom. They too, supplied a radical element with money and weapons to fight others elsewhere. But the Saudi plan succeeded only partially; although bin Laden fought the Russians and attacked the U.S., his followers keep their strife against the Saudi royals alive. Indeed, a strong Hamas – the Palestinian branch of the MB, would only embolden their Egyptian brothers.

Ettinger provided more details about Egypt’s agenda:

“MUBARAK’s-CONTROLLED MEDIA AND CLERGY REJOICED THE 9/11 TERROR, IMPLICATING THE USA, forcing US ambassador David Welch to publish a rebutting OpEd in Al-Aharam.

Two weeks before 9/11, the Mubarak-controlled daily Akhbar Al-Yom, incited: “THE STATUE OF LIBERTY MUST BE DESTROYED…”

“Congratulations, shouted Egyptians watching the incredible images of airliners crashing into the World Trade Center” (Agence France Presse, 9.12.01).

On 8.17.02, Akhbar Al-Yom claimed: “RUMSFELD IS A MODERN-DAY HITLER.” “CHENEY, RICE and RUMSFELD ARE THE AXIS OF EVIL” (ibid, 7.3.02).

“You [PRESIDENT BUSH] are an evil person with an ugly soul…You are stupid and ignorant of world events…” (Dr. Adel Sadeq, chairman of the Arab Psychiatrists Ass’n and Head of Psychiatry at Mubarak-controlled Cairo’s Ein Shams University, Egypt’s Hadith Al-Madina, 4.23.02, via MEMRI).

Furthermore, “MUBARAK’s FOREIGN MINISTER, AHMAD MAHER, OPPOSES USA PLAN TO DEMOCRATIZE THE MIDEAST (official weekly, Al Mussawar, 1.10.03): “Powell’s proposal [MEPI] is the epitome of idiocy… Our response to the US is – ‘examine yourself first, since you require a great deal of improvement’…”

Egypt’s media and officials consider MEPI “colonialism in disguise” and “Afghanization of Arab countries,” consistent with their criticism of US sanctions on – and bombing of – Saddam, US bombing of Afghanistan and US war on Islamic terrorism.” If President Bush is serious about his モwar against the radicalsヤ (no more Islamofascism…), he should add Egypt to that list.
