Imam Syed Soharwardy of Calgary, the head of the Calgary-based Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC) and the founder of Muslims Against Terrorism.
On September 11, 2019 Imam Syed Soharwardy issued the following statement on the 9/11 attacks in which he argued that Muslims were the prime victims of these terrorist attacks:
Anniversary of the Tragedy of 9/11 – (Calgary) Muslims Against Terrorism (MAT) and the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC) strongly condemn the attacks on 9/11/2001 in New York. The terrorism on 9/11 did not only kill nearly 3000 people in New York, it also destroyed four Muslim countries; Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya. As a result, more than half million Afghan and nearly one million Iraqi Muslims were murdered. It created ISIS [Islamic State, Daesh] which further destroyed Iraq, Syria and Libya. More than one million Syrian are dead and more than five million were forced to take shelter in refugee camps. Around the world Muslims became the target of hate due to 9/11. Who suffered most from the terrorism on 9/11? Muslims. Our prayers and solidarity are with the victims of terrorism. May those who conspired, planned and executed the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre on 9/11/2001 in New York and those who killed millions of Muslims in revenge and those who are still planning to destroy more Muslim countries be face the eternal wrath of almighty God soon. Ameen.
